Lot Essay

This drawing can be associated with a small group of works executed in the last decade of Moore's life which depict women in contemporary dress. A watercolour from this group, A Face in the Audience, exhibited in 1889, is now in the York City Art Gallery.

We are grateful to Richard Green of the York City Art Gallery, for his help in preparing this entry.
