Lot Essay

George, 3rd Duke of St. Albans (1730-1786), Lord Lieutenant and Custos Rotulorum of Berkshire 1751-1760, Lord of the Bedchamber 1751, High Steward of Windsor, carried the Sword of State at the Installation of the Prince of Wales in 1771. He married Jane (d. 1778), daughter and co-heir of Sir Walter Roberts, 6th Bt. of Glassenbury Park, Kent in 1752 (see lot 41). He died without issue in Brussels and was succeeded by his first cousin once removed.
