Lot Essay

A similar miniature, illustrated in Miniatures at Kenwood - The Draper Gift, London, 1997, pp. 116-117, no. 47, is praised thus: 'Nathaniel Plimer's portraits in the manner of Cosway, such as this fine example, have more atmosphere than similar works by Andrew Plimer. [...] The sitter's face is worked with fine, soft stipple, with careful attention paid to the eyes.'
