oval, 2¾ in. (70 mm.) high, set in an engine turned 18 ct. gold locket case with makers mark 'IN', possibly for John Nevill, London 1811, the interior engraved 'Lady Jane Gordon daughter of George 4th Earl of Aberdeen & of Catherine, Countess of Aberdeen Born, 1807 Died, 1824'

The sitter has been identified as Catherine Elizabeth (died 1812), eldest daughter of 1st Marquess of Abercorn, who married George, 4th Earl of Aberdeen (1784-1860) in 1805 and not Lady Jane Gordon as identified by the engraving on the gold locket case and in the catalogue description.

Jane was the daughter of George, 4th Earl of Aberdeen (1784-1860) and his first wife, Catherine Elizabeth (died 1812), eldest daughter of 1st Marquess of Abercorn. She died unmarried.
