A PAIR OF GEORGE III MAHOGANY OPEN ARMCHAIRS
Each with cartouche-shaped back, arms and seat covered in blue-grey floral damask, the scrolled arms on channelled serpentine supports, on channelled cabriole legs each headed by a stylised shell, on scroll feet, one chair inscribed in ink to the seat-rail 'No. 3 Octagon' the other inscribed 'No.1', restorations, one chair with later block, the other with later cross-strutts and restored break to back leg, one back leg replaced, with pegged construction (2)

Lot Essay

A similar pair of chairs, with cartouche-shaped backs and scrolling brackets, was sold anonymously, Sotheby's London , 10 November 1995, lot 89.
