A REGENCY ORMOLU-MOUNTED BRONZE AND BURR-YEW INKSTAND
The central figure of a maiden holding a cornucopia in each hand, the top a taper-stand, the base a lidded inkwell and a sand container, also with an oval dish before her, above a mahogany-lined drawer and moulded plinth, on ring-turned bun feet, the drawer inscribed in ink 'F.S.' on wood
9¼ in. (23.5 cm.) high; 12½ in. (32 cm.) wide

Lot Essay

The design for this inkstand derives from a French prototype, illustrated in M. Faniel, 'Le Dix-Neuvième Siècle Franais', Connaissance des Arts, Paris, 1957, p. 150, fig. 1.
A similar example, with a black marble inkstand, was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 21 September 1995, lot 112.
