Please note that Mr. Fred Meijer intends to publish this picture in his forthcoming article on the artist. Dr. Sam Segal however believes the picture to be by a hitherto unidentified copyist of van Brussel.

It should also be noted that this picture was not included in a 1948 sale as incorrectly given in the provenance.

Lot Essay

A well respected still life painter in The Hague, Roedig was elected Secretary of the Academy of The Hague in 1794, a position he held until his death in 1801.

A version of this composition, bearing the signature and date 'P: T: van Brussel fecit 1787' but possibly also by Roedig, was sold in these Rooms, 28 March 1969, lot 82.

We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer for the attribution.
