A pair of Meissen groups of a cob and two cygnets
Circa 1745, one with blue crossed swords mark at back
Modelled by J.J. Kändler and P. Reinicke, with black and iron-red beaks, black webbed feet and incised plumage, each with a cygnet on her back and underneath her chest, on circular mound bases moulded with waterweeds enriched in green (one cob with repair to tip of left wing, minute chip to one cygnet's beak)
Approximately 5.1/8 in. (13 cm.) high (2)

Lot Essay

Both Kändler and Reinicke are recorded as having worked on this model, see the records for Kändler in November 1747, '2 Modelle zu kleinen Schwanen mit Jungen ausgestellt und in gehörige Positur gesetzet.' and for Reinicke in the same month, '1 Schwahn mit 2Jungen zu vohhergehenden in Thon rein boussiert.'
