Circa 1770, blue crossed swords and dot mark
Modelled by J.J. Kändler, wearing a tunic and cloak, slightly turned to his left, his right arm raised and holding a sword in his left, standing barefoot on an oval base supported by a square plinth, the sides moulded with Greek key-pattern (thumb repaired and three fingers of his right hand lacking, chip to right hand side of drapery)

Lot Essay

Cf. The Bridgewater Altar Set sold in these Rooms, 30 November 1959, lot 98 for a similar model of St. Paul on a gilt base. The six smaller saints in this series were some of the last pieces to be modelled by Kändler before his death in 1775.
