A Meissen two-handled beaker and saucer
The porcelain circa 1728 and 1730, the decoration circa 1730, blue crossed swords mark to beaker, enamel blue crossed swords mark to saucer, gilder's 8. mark to both, Dreher's to saucer
Painted in puce camaïeu with European and Turkish merchants at various pursuits on quaysides before distant castles, buildings, galleons and other sailing vessels, within shaped gilt cartouches with Böttger lustre panels, gilt scrolls and iron-red and puce foliage-scrolls, the borders with gilt interlocking scrollwork, the beaker with gilt handles, the reverse of the saucer painted with three concentric iron-red circles (beaker with minute chipping to footrim and slight rubbing to gilding of rim, saucer with minute chip to underside of rim and two minute areas of rubbing to gilding of cartouche)
