A pair of St. Petersburg (Alexander II) two-handled bucket-shaped ice-pails
Circa 1860, stencilled green crowned A monograms, Pressnummer 45 to one, incised 24 to other
Each side painted with huntsmen on foot with dogs, on horseback or shooting fowl in river and wooded landscapes edged with orange and gilt pierced foliate rococo half-cartouches, below green diaper borders edged with gilt foliage scrolls and red, puce, yellow and blue flowers, the handles formed as shells enriched with gilding (areas of spray restoration to both, minute wear to gilding at extremities)

Lot Essay

These ice-pails were evidently made by the Imperial factory to match the Meissen hunting service made for Empress Elisabeth Petrovna of Russia; see the footnote for the preceding lot.
