Of conical form, the wide central register with a deep band of thuluth against a ground of spiralling arabesques, originally inlaid with silver, a minor border of stylised leaf motifs above and below, two other minor borders at the base, with a later added shoulder and socket holder of tinned brass, some silver remaining, one small area of damage

Lot Essay

The thulth inscription reads: 'izz li-l'janab al-'ali al-'alimi al-mawlawi al-amir al-kabir al-muharafi (?) w'al-majd w'al-'amili w'al-mujahidi w'al-murabati (Glory to his Excellency, the exalted, the learned, the lordly, the great amir, (...), the exalted the, the virtuous, he who fights God's cause, the defender of the frontiers).
