A KHORASSAN FINELY ENGRAVED BRONZE INKWELL AND COVER
NORTH EAST PERSIA, 12TH CENTURY
Of typical cylindrical form, the flat cover with central raised cusped dome terminating in a ball finial, the sides with applied cusped hinged loops for suspension, simple loops above on the side of the cover, the body engraved with a cusped arch between each suspension loop extremely finely worked with interlaced spiralling vine, each flanked by two upper bird roundels, an interrupted naskh benedictory inscription running around the base, the sides of the cover with a similar kufic inscription, the top with a larger naskh inscription interrupted by bird roundels, the underside with a central bird roundel flanked by three panels containing running animals, the internal lip of the mouth with simple semicircles, very slightly pitted, small repair to base
