The hexagonal bezel with recessed four-lobed cartouche containing naskh inscription al-dunya sa't (The world is momentary), the border with engraved and niello arabesques with four pseudo-claws, the sides with simple niello flourishes, the shoulders with applied gold and niello harpy's heads, the shank with further applied gold arabesques and niello decoration, light surface dirt

Lot Essay

This is a more elaborate example of the hexagonal bezel ring seen in lots 302, 305 and 307. Another example with recessed quatrefoil containing an inscription is in the David Collection, formerly at Spink (Spink, M. (ed.): Islamic Jewellery, London, 1986, no.63).
