18TH CENTURY AND TIMURID PERSIA, 15TH CENTURY
The jar of high shouldered baluster form, a lower collar above the foot, the mouth rising and flaring out to the rim, the body finely engraved with vertical bands of interlaced palmette vine sometimes extending to an arcade divided into three registers by overlaid narrower similar bands, the cover coming from a Timurid silver inlaid brass jug, of shallow domed form with fluted pointed small knop, decorated with a band of silver inlaid inscription panels divided by small arabesque panels, a band of radiating palmettes above and below, rubbed, most silver remaining
Jar 10½in. (26.6cm.) high; lid 3.1/8in. (8cm.) diam.
