A QAJAR CUERDA SECA POTTERY TILE PANEL
PERSIA, LATE 19TH CENTURY
Comprising twenty-four tiles, the white ground with scrolling flowering vine around a central hatched pink roundel containing a portrait of a bearded figure, a green oval inscription cartouche at each side, the turquoise spandrels with flowering sprays, in an ivory border of meandering palmette and arabesque leaf vine between plain stripes, slight damages and restoration
Each tile 6.5/8in. (17cm.) square

Lot Essay

The inscription ovals read: inna fatahna laka fathan mubinan (we have opened up an apparent victory to you); and: nasr min Allah wa fath qariban (help is from God and vistory is nigh).
