Lot Essay

Thomas Shearer published this pattern of 'Circular' cellaret sideboard in The Cabinet-Makers' London Book of Prices, 1788, pl. 5, fig. 1. He suggested a slightly more elaborately shaped inlaid panel in each drawer (L. White, Pictorial Dictionary of British 18th Century Furniture Design, Woodbridge, 1990, p. 284).
An almost identical sideboard was sold by Symons Gallery at Parke Bernet, New York, 7 May 1949, lot 531.
