Each with open circular top and the tapering sides with grotesque masks linked by swags of palm fronds, on moulded base
14½ in. (37 cm.) diam.; 13 in. (33 cm.) high (2)
Provenance
Possibly supplied to the 5th Duke of Bolton (d.1765) for Hackwood.
By descent until sold in 1935 with Hackwood to William Berry, 1st Viscount Camrose (d.1954).
Thence by descent.

Lot Essay

The early provenance of these urns is unknown but the crossed palm-fronds seem related to the palm and bullrush ornament that John Vardy (d.1765) used repeatedly on mirrors for Hackwood, such as lot 78 in this sale.
