Lot Essay

The celebrated actress Lavinia Fenton (d.1760) was most famous for her role as Polly Peacham in 'The Beggar's Opera' in the late 1720s. She was the mistress of the 3rd Duke of Bolton for 23 years before marrying him in 1751.
