Lot Essay

The antiquarian collector Sir Samuel Rush Meyrick (1783-1848) built Goodrich Court in Herefordshire on a hill overlooking the ruins of Goodrich Castle. Building started in 1828 of 'a dwelling in the style of Edward 2nd under the superintendence of the first gothic architect of the age my friend Edward Blore'. Best known for its medieval armour, the collection was gradually dispersed in the late 1860s and 1870s.
