Lot Essay

This chimneypiece is of the same model as those in rooms created or altered by Samuel Wyatt for the 2nd Baron Bolton, circa 1810. Like much of the decoration in those rooms, they are archaic in design and designed to harmonise with the older rooms in the house, emphasising the great antiquity of the Bolton family.
