Of an elderly bearded man, looking to his left, with a scarf over his head, wearing yellow drapery and a foliate decorated cloth, the reverse inscribed in underglaze blue fecit a rouen 1647 and with a fleur de lys, on a square stepped socle

Lot Essay

This faience bust is after the celebrated set of life size busts of The Four Seasons, modelled by Vevasseur, formerly in the Hamilton Palace Collection, sold in these rooms by the 12th Duke of Hamilton, 17th June 1882, lot 1003, now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris.
