Lot Essay

The present group entitled Cupid Captive is after an original work by Charles-Auguste Fraikin (d. 1893), exhibited in plaster at the Brussels in 1845 and in marble at the same Salon three years later and again at the Crystal Palace Great Exhibition of 1851. The work was widely reproduced in various materials including Parian ware.
