Lot Essay

A native of Florence, Affortunato Gori specialised in combining different materials, mostly various types of marble with bronze and sometimes ivory. Best-known for his statuettes of young women and orientalist compositions, such as the present example, Gori exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1904 and 1914 and continued to practice as a sculptor after the First World War.
