Two Meissen porcelain vases and covers, emblematic of War and the Hunt
After models by Kaendler, Circa 1880
One with cover surmounted by Jupiter with thunderbolts astride his eagle, above a spirally-fluted spreading neck, the baluster-shaped body moulded in relief to the front with a battle scene and decorated to the back with sprigs of flowers and gilt cartouche inscribed DIEU ET MON DROIT, one handle as a Roman soldier with a putto, drum and weapons, the other as armour, foliage, drums and a cannon-ball, the spirally-fluted spreading foot moulded with a shackled Asiatic; the other vase surmounted by a figure of Diana with her hound, above a spirally-fluted spreading neck, the baluster body moulded to the front with hounds chasing stags and wild boar and decorated to the back with hunting trophies, on naturalistically-moulded foot, each vase with blue crossed swords mark to the underside
