After the right side of the Adonis sarcophagus in the Palazzo Rospigliosi, Rome. A drawing by Franco after the left side is in the Teylers Museum, Haarlem (inv. I.2), and a copy after the entire composition is in the Baltimore Museum of Art (inv. BMA 1931.63.33). According to Anne Lauder, to whom we are grateful for her help in preparing this note, the similarities in handling and dimension between the present drawing and the one at Baltimore suggest that they were once attached. Both drawings were owned by Earl Spencer.
