Digges, *4v verses on Shakespeare by John Warren, A1r second title without date, A1v blank, A2r text, K8r-M4r poems on Shakespeare and other subjects by or ascribed to Ben Jonson, Beaumont, Heywood, Carew, Herrick, Strode, Richard Clarke and the anonymous 'I.G.') 97 leaves. Engraved portrait frontispiece of Shakespeare by William Marshall after Droeshout, printer's device (McKerrow 283) on title, type-ornament headpieces, ornamental initial. (A few tears in frontispiece, some light browning.) Contemporary sheep, blindstamped double fillet on sides (somewhat worn).

FIRST COLLECTED EDITION. It contains all but eight of the sonnets from the 1609 edition, a few songs from Shakespeare plays, 'The Passionate Pilgrim' in its 1612 version, 'The Phoenix and the Turtle', and poems by Jonson, Milton and others; Shakespeare's narrative poems, 'Venus and Adonis' and 'The Rape of Lucrece' are not included. The order of the sonnets varies considerably from the first, 1609, edition, and a few of the pronouns have been changed to the feminine, as if written to a woman.
