The earliest recorded designs for bamboo furniture are from William Chamber's Designs for Chinese Buildings and Furniture, 1757. This armchair relates to those in Brighton Pavillion in the 'Chinese' corridor, illustrated in The Royal Brighton Pavilion, Guidebook, p. 8.
