Lot Essay

Thunderbolt was foaled in 1857 by Stockwell out of Cordelia by Red Deer. Bred by Mr Knapton and raced by Caledon Alexander, he won twelve races in the four seasons from 1859 to 1863, including the Stockbridge Cup when he gave weight to the very useful Asteroid. He was also third to the classic winners The Wizard and Thormanby in the Grand Duke Michael Stakes at Newmarket.
