Lot Essay

John Frederick Herring, Junior worked in a very similar style to his father John Frederick Herring, Senior (1795-1865). He specialised particularly in farmyard scenes, of which this is a prime example, perhaps influenced by his father who turned more and more to such subject matter after his move from London to Meopham, Kent, in 1853.
