As a two year old Ki Ming won the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes at Ascot from only two starts. At three, he began with his biggest win when taking the 2,000 Guineas ridden by Scobie Breasley and trained by the former jockey Michael Beary. He later won the Diadem Stakes at Ascot but failed to stay after starting favorite for the Derby. He was an exceptionally big horse standing about 17 hands and proved difficult to train, only running once as a four year old before retiring to stud.
