Lot Essay

The indistinct inscription to the reverse would suggest that this portrait depicts a member of the Lavisch family. Raised to a Barony in 1654 and, subsequently elected Counts in 1748, the Lavisch family held estates in both Karvina in the Czech Republic and Teschen, Silesia (Poland).
