Inspired by the pattern supplied by Jean-Baptiste-Claude Sené (elected maître in 1769) for Queen Marie-Antoinette's Salon des Jeux at both Compiègne and Fontainebleau, these stools ultimately derive from the original wax model by the sculptor Jean Hauré, who was appointed chargé de la direction des travaux en ébénisterie, sculpture et dorure pour le service du Garde-Meuble.
