Godefroy Dester, maître in 1774.

Established in the rue du Faubourg-Sainte-Antoine, Godefroy Dester's goût Grecque style was clearly inspired by the oeuvres of Adam Weisweiler and Guillaume Beneman. A closely related mahogany secretaire by Dester was sold by the Marquess of Hamilton in these Rooms, 8 April 1976, lot 49, whilst a further example was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 7 December 1978, lot 110.
