Lot Essay

The treatment of the ornament on these wall-lights is similar to that of a set of four-branch wall-lights in the Concert Room at Sanssouci in Potsdam (H.-J. Giersberg, Sanssouci, Potsdam, 1975, fig. 23). That room was decorated by Johann Michael Hoppenhaupt II (1709-1769), Directeur des Ornements to Frederick the Great.
