Lot Essay

Sutherland was employed as an official War Artist between September 1940 and November 1944. He started work in Swansea moving through London and the Midlands, Derbyshire, Cornwall and finally Trappes in France. In London he concentrated on recording the effects of the enemy bombs falling on the East End and the City.
