The Short Way Home from Great Aunt Buckley's
signed with a fly (lower left), signed again, dated and inscribed 'The short way home from Great Aunt Buckley's./On Friday evenings, Mother, George & I with the dogs/(Gyp & Barney) Grandma and our three Aunts,/sometimes went the short way home after calling/on Great Aunt Buckley. It passed mills and/the rough part of town, there were drunken/men & mill girls eating chips on their way home/from work, but for George & I it was the most/exciting walk. We saw the trains going in &/out of Glodwick Rd station and we saw the/street lights going up into the town like a/string of jewels and it was an early Spring/evening in 1906. The aunts met Miss Carter (who/wore pink) & Mr. Taylor (the Bank Manager) on their way/to a Bazaar./Helen Layfield Bradley 1967.' (on a label attached to the paper backing)
