Bomberg made his only painting trip to Cornwall in August 1947. He had visited North Devon during the summer of 1946 and the landscapes from these two summers are considered amongst the finest of his work of the 1940s, a period when he was totally absorbed by his teaching duties at the Borough Polytechnic.
