A Korean helmet
Choson period (19th Century)
The leather bowl black lacquered, the lower edge bordered by a deep iron rim cusped over the eyes and with a shallow peak rivetted on, four narrow bands of iron rivetted vertically over the outside of the bowl which is capped by an inverted cup in iron, the peak, bands and cup heavily overlaid with silver, a tube mounted on top of the cup into which a crest of red horse hair with a trident finial is screwed, a fabric neck defence divided into three sections lined with rectangular leather plates held in place by pairs of iron rivets
