An Elaborately Decorated Kodansu
With signatures after well known makers, Koremitsu, Naomitsu, Tashiyuki kizamu, Shunfu, Toshima saku, Ryozan Chikucho and others, Edo Period (19th Century)
Decorated with nine full size kiseru and thirteen tsuba applied in relief, half in the round with various designs, the tsuba in Shibayama style inlay on a kinji ground, the pipes of shibuichi, silver, copper, gold and shakudo, the sappa-dai of the tsuba in the same metals, apart from gold, and the waves kinji inlaid with raden, horn, red lacquer and tortoiseshell, silver rims, all on a nashiji ground, the edges of the box fundame, the silver mounts carved with butterflies, flowers and karakusa, the inside of the door decorated with two birds amid plants in togidashi, the front with a profusion of flowers and leaves in togidashi, the rest of the interior in nashiji with fundame rims, the drawers with silver handles, minor restoration
