Kinzogan Mei: Kunihiro, Edo Period (17th century)
The blade hirazukuri, mitsumune, uchizori, koitame-hada with fine ji-nie, ko-midare hamon of nie with sunagashi, maru boshi with long kaeri, a dragon and ken horimono piercing the blade, ubu nakago, 11in. (28cm); in a black lacquer saya with fine gold and silver togidashi of peasants running from a thunderstorm, the rain inlaid in raden, copper kashira formed as sumo wrestlers, gilt details, the other mounts of silver comprising fuchi, koiguchi, kurikata, uragawara, kozuka and kojiri, all carved with clouds and with gilt lightning, the fuchi inlaid in copper with a large figure of Raijin, details in shakudo and gilt, the kozuka carved with Fujin holding his sack, gilt details, copper menuki of oni with gilt details, the fuchi and kozuka signed Kazunori and kao, some old damage to the lacquer
