A Five Case Kamakura Bori Inro
Edo Period (19th Century)
The inro is unusual in that it is in the form of a cabinet, enclosing five boxes, each with a lid, the inro with a sliding panel on the front and reverse to contain the boxes, the top, bottom and sides carved with the takaramono [lucky things] among clouds over a diaper patterned ground, the five boxes and sliding panels carved with a variety of diaper patterns, with a netsuke in the same technique in the form of a small stand with the character fuku [good fortune] on the top
The inro 5½in. (14cm.) high and the netsuke 1.3/8in. (3.5cm.) long
