As a sports car, the MG TC Midget made up in character what it perhaps lacked in sheer performance. Unashamedly old-fashioned when it appeared in 1946, built in the traditional way with a wooden-framed body, steel panelled, on a steel chassis and lacking subtleties such as independent front suspension, it nevertheless captured hearts all over the world and became the MG company's best seller. The secret was not so much in what it did but the way it did it. The engine was willing, the gearbox, intermediate ratios somehow just right, controlled by a stubby little remote gear lever, a joy to use, the handling delightful, even the harsh ride seemed appropriate. Visually too the TC was a treat, harking back to 1930s competition cars with that slender louvred bonnet, sweeping wings and neatly contrived slab fuel tank at the rear with its racing-style filler, all set-off by skinny wire wheels and tyres retained by Rudge-Whitworth eared spinners.

Driving to his business in his MG TC one fine day in the summer of 1982, the present owner was abruptly halted by a television producer and asked if he would loan his car for a new production, Spoils of War. The MG subsequently became the first exhibit of a fascinating museum collection and it has been on display since 1989 when the museum first opened. Described as in good general condition, the car may need some recommissioning, after which it should provide its fortunate new owner with enjoyable open-road motoring or entry to any of the vast variety of events offered by the worldwide MG owners' clubs.
