Engraved map of the Italian peninsula on two full, chancery-size sheets joined, overall 453 x 608mm (engraving 395 x 567mm). Title set in a decorative strapwork cartouche, galleons and sea monsters decorate the seas, 17th-century French inscription in lower margin recording the distance between Corsica and Sardinia, and mentioning the Sicilian Vespri, 'no.23' inscribed on upper margin. (Old vertical centre creases.)

An attractive map of Italy including Corsica, the northern-most parts of Sardinia and Sicily and the Eastern Aegean seaboard as far as Durazo. Fernando Bertelli was one of the most prolific of Venetian map publishers and engravers, who also sold composite atlases and worked at various times with other greater names in Venetian cartography - Giovanni Francesco Camocio and Domenico Zenoi. Tooley 333, recording 6 copies only; watermark in each sheet are similar to Woodward 93.
