CURTIUS, Ludovicus and Giovanni MAGGI (1566-1618). Antiquissimae ac celeberrimae Regiaeq. Civitatis Papiae icon. 1599-1600.

Engraved map of Pavia on two sheets, each 557 x 408mm (engraving 482 x 408mm. Title set in a strapwork cartouche on right hand sheet, legend at lower margin of both sheets, the river Ticino decorated with smallships and barges. (Unobtrusive worming, trimmed to image left and right of both sheets, stitch holes along the upper margin.)

A fine rare map of Pavia and surrounding lands, the right sheet bearing the imprint of Curtius, whilst the left, that of Maggi. Curtius is known from this plan only, whereas Maggi produced other work, including plans of Florence, Rome's churches, and Sabina. The division of labour between Maggi and Curtius is not recorded in Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers, but the two sheets were conceived together. (2)
