[BELL'ARMATO, Girolamo (1493-1560)]. Sacra tuscia. No imprint, [c. 1550s].
Engraved map of Tuscany on a full Royal sheet, 410 x 548mm. Title set in a scrolling ribbon above the border, dividers placed against left margin, graticule border with scale, the sea decorated with a galleon. (Trimmed to platemark, some light staining, occasional loss along lower edge affecting graticule only.)
A FINE COPY OF THIS RARE MAP, derived directly from Bell'Armato's seminal map of 1536, with fewer mistakes, but some names are missing. The position of the dividers at the right-hand border, where one might expect the dedication to be, is a singular feature of this edition. Tooley 578 records four copies, other copies are also recorded in the Museo Correr, Venice, (Car. Geogr. nr.49) and the Biblioteca Marciana, Venice (inv. nr.481); watermark eagle in circle (diameter 50mm) uncrowned, not in Woodward or Bricquet.
