LUCHINI, Vincenzo. Sicilia. Rome: Giovanni Orlandi, 1602.
Engraved map of Sicily on a single Royal sheet, 402 x 546mm (engraving 347 x 463mm). Including the whole of Sicily and parts of the adjacent islands and of Calabria, title set in a cartouche, scalebar, graticule border, galleons decorate the sea. (Some later manuscript marks marks in pen-and-ink on verso, some light spotting.)
A fine impression of Sicily as published by Orlandi, inspired by Vincenzo Luchini's work first published in Rome in 1558 (see Tooley 516). The present map was also inspired by the same sources as the previous lot (1066), and is similar to Ferrando Bertelli's map of Sicily now in the Bilioteca Apostolica Vaticaa (St Geogr. 71); Lago p. 238; Watermark, triple-mount surmounted by a crown in a circle.
