The journal includes such subjects as arguments with the Dutch consul, the activities of dragomen carrying messages to and from the Dey, the arbitration of claims to ship's prizes, the redemption of slaves and local celebrations. The journal concludes 'Mr. Fraser finding this sort of journal or Political Register to be very laborious and judging there must be enough already Enter'd to show any man what sort of People live in this country - what has been done in it & what ought to be done or continued - Mr. Fraser therefore shuts this laborious work'.
