The case decorated to the front with all over floral marquetry, the hood with (later) fretwork to the cornices and glazed side panels, with lenticle glass to the rectangular trunk door with moulded borders and inlaid with birds and floral urns, conforming inlay to the plinth with later stepped base, the 10½in. (27cm.) square brass dial now within a 1¼in. (3cm.) wide brass frame, with cherub mask gilt spandrels and leafy engraving to the 2in. (5cm.) silvered chapter ring signed Nathaniel Birt London, the matted centre with ringed winding holes and further engraving to date aperture and centre, with subsidiary silvered seconds ring, the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike; dial and movement associated to case
