of square form modelled in the Japanese taste, the conforming cover with prunus branch handle above a faux portrait box and cover on the cobalt-blue ground, edged in green Greek-key, the sides moulded and brightly coloured with heron in flight and squirrels perched on prunus branches, each corner with an eagle and on four ball and claw feet, impressed numerals and JH monogram, circa 1880 (chips and restoration) -- 20.5cm. wide
